It will help us in determining your device's correct HotSync name. You can enter this text directly, using Graffiti or the device's keyboard, or you can import the data by transerring it from a desktop/laptop computer to your handheld computer. You can also export custom text data from any BioChem record to the desktop for use there. In the lower portion of the screen, enter the desired text using the keyboard or your preferred method of text entry. 4. The custom text you enter will appear in the lower portion of this record anytime you view it in the future. IMPORTING TEXT FROM A DESKTOP COMPUTER: If you have a lot of custom text to add to a BioChem record, it's easier to enter the text on a desktop computer then import it into the record in BioChem. >> Importing text using a Palm OS device << BioChem imports text from the memo pad of your Palm OS handheld. Therefore, you need to create a memo on the desktop, perform a HotSync to move the memo to the handheld, then import it into BioChem. Note: the Palm OS memo pad has a record size limit of about 4 kb. This is a lot of text, but if you need to import more text than this limit, simply create multiple memos, then import them in order into BioChem. 1. Open your handheld's desktop software (for example, open the Palm Desktop software). 2. Click the Memo button on the left side of the screen. 3. Click the [New Memo] button at the bottom of the screen. 4. Now enter as much text as you wish into the new memo (see size limitation note above). You can enter this text directly using your computer's keyboard, or you can copy the text from another source on your computer then paste it into the memo. 5. When done entering memo text for your BioChem record, perform a HotSync to move the newly created memo(s) to your handheld computer. 6. Start BioChem on your handheld computer. 7. Open the record of the chemical, biological, or nerve agent into which you want to import your custom text. 8. Tap the top of the screen to open the menu then select Custom Data>Import memo text. 9. A list of all the memos on your handheld will appear. If you have more memos than will fit on the screen at one time, a Forward button will appear to let you see your other memos. 10. Locate and tap on the memo record you want to import. 11. If the record already had existing custom text, you are given the option to overwrite the old custom text with the new text from the memo pad, or to add (append) the new memo text on to the end of the existing text. >> Exporting text using a Palm OS device << You can export custom text from a BioChem record. The text is exported to a Palm OS Memo Pad memo. You can then HotSync to move the memo to your desktop/laptop computer for use there. 1. Open the BioChem record that contains the custom text you want to export. 2. Tap the top of the screen to open the "drop down menu" then select Export to memo from the Custom data menu. 3. A memo will be created automatically. It will be given a name related to the BioChem record you are exporting from. For example, if you are exporting custom text from the Ammonia record, a memo will be created with the name "Ammonia Memo Export". This new memo will be placed at the end of the memos existing in your handheld's Memo Pad program. 4. Now perform a HotSync to move the new memo to your desktop computer. 5. Open your handheld's desktop software (for example, open the Palm Desktop software). 6. Click the Memo button on the left side of the screen. 7. On the list of memos, look for the memo for the agent custom text you exported. For example, if you exported custom text from the Ammonia record, look for a memo with the name "Ammonia Memo Export". 8. You can now open this memo for editing, copy the text and paste it into another Windows program, etc.
