Please report problems/inaccuracies to support@arkansoft.com. _______________________ Registering your software: To convert the trial version to fully operational software, you need a registration key. Check the registration screen in the BioChem program to get the location where you can purchase your key. In order to generate your registration key, you must provide your device "Owner Name" exactly as it is displayed near the top of the Windows Mobile device "Today Screen". ***Be sure to send us your exact device Owner Name. Capitalization counts. Spaces count. After obtaining your registration key, tap the BioChem icon on the handheld computer to start BioChem. It will say "Trial Version" at the top of the screen. Tap the [Register] button in the lower right area of the screen. When the Register screen appears, tap the number buttons on the screen to enter your registration key. After entering your registration key, tap the [Submit Registration] button in the lower left area of the screen. If you get an Error message "Invalid registration key" tap the [OK] button then check the key you entered and determine where you made a mistake in data entry. Then tap the [Reset] button to clear your incorrectly entered key and try again. If you repeatedly get an invalid key message, you may have provided an incorrect version of your device Owner Name, resulting in generation of an incorrect registration key. Tap the [Help] button on the error message. You will see a code of numbers and dashes. Send us the exact content of this code. It will help us in determining your device's correct Owner Name. Mail the code to support@arkansoft.com If you enter the key correctly, the [Submit Registration] button will return "Registration successful. Thanks!". Tap the [OK] button and your new program is registered and ready to use. _________________________ Usage: Tap the program's "poison" icon to start the program. If you know the name of the agent you're looking for, select its name on the Chemical, Biological, Nerve Gas menu, or Radioactive agents menu. Once the agent data viewer appears, tap any of the buttons to see data, for instance, on symptoms, first aid, etc. If you don't know the name of the agent you're interested in, but you know it's type/action, appearance or odor, you can tap the buttons at the bottom of the main menu, under "Find name of agent based on..." to get help on determining what agent you're dealing with. ADDING CUSTOM TEXT TO BIOCHEM RECORDS You can enter custom text/data into any of the BioChem chemical, biological, or nerve agent records. You can enter this text directly, using Graffiti or the device's keyboard, or you can import the data by transerring it from a desktop/laptop computer to your handheld computer. You can also export custom text data from any BioChem record to the desktop for use there. Full instructions for entering, importing, and exporting custom text follows for Pocket PC devices. ***You can change the custom text in the future by selecting Enable edit from the Custom data menu. ***You can use the Custom data menu to hide the custom text you entered, so you can use the full screen to view the standard BioChem data for this record. ***You can use the Custom data menu to delete the custom text if you don't need it anymore. ***You can use the Custom data menu to export the text you custom text you entered. The exported text than then be moved to your desktop computer the next time you sync, so you can use it or edit it there. ENTERING TEXT DIRECTLY: 1. Open the chemical, biological, or nerve agent record you want to use. 2. Tap the Custom data menu at the bottom of the screen then select Add custom data. 3. In the lower portion of the screen, enter the desired text using the keyboard or your preferred method of text entry. 4. The custom text you enter will appear in the lower portion of this record anytime you view it in the future. IMPORTING TEXT FROM A DESKTOP COMPUTER: If you have a lot of custom text to add to a BioChem record, it's easier to enter the text on a desktop computer then import it into the record in BioChem. >> Importing text using a Pocket PC device << When importing text on a Pocket PC device, BioChem looks for plain text files in your handheld's "My Documents" folder. These files must be plain text files with the extension ".txt" added to the end of the file name. To create plain text files which automatically have the proper ".txt" file name extension, it's best to use the Windows Notepad program. 1. Click the Windows Start button and select Programs>Accessories then select Notepad (this is where Notepad is stored on most Windows computers, though it may be stored in a different location on your own computer. 2. Now enter as much text as you wish into Notepad. You can enter this text directly using your computer's keyboard, or you can copy the text from another source on your computer then paste it into Notepad. 3. When done entering text, select Save from the Notepad File menu. In the "File name:" field, enter the name you want to give this file and indicate the location on your computer where you want to store the file (chose a location where you can find it later). The file should be saved as type "Text Documents". Windows will give it the ".txt" file name extension automatically. 4. Place your Pocket PC onto its cradle. 5. In the Microsoft ActiveSync program, select "Explore" from the menu at the top of the screen (or open your Windows file explorer program). 6. Use the file explorer to browse your computer's hard disk to locate the text file you saved in step 3 above. 7. When you locate your text file, RIGHT click over it with your mouse, and select Copy (or highlight the text file in the file browser and select Copy from the file browser Edit menu). 8. Now browse in the file browser to your mobile device (your Pocket PC). This may be found in the "Other" category under My Computer, or you may find "Mobile Device" listed near the bottom of the drives displayed in Windows Explorer browser. 9. Click to open "Mobile Device" then open "My Pocket PC". 10. Locate and click to open the My Documents folder, then RIGHT click with the mouse and select Paste (or select Paste from the file browser Edit menu) to paste your text file into the Pocket PC's My Documents folder. 11. Now start BioChem on your Pocket PC and open the chemical, biological, or nerve agent record into which you want to import your custom text. 12. Tap to open the Custom data menu at the bottom of the screen, then select Import external text. 13. A list of the "Txt" files in your My Documents folder will appear. Tap the text file you want to import into this record. 14. If the record already had existing custom text, you are given the option to overwrite the old custom text with the new text from the memo pad, or to add (append) the new memo text on to the end of the existing text. >> Exporting text using a Pocket PC device << 1. Open the BioChem record that contains the custom text you want to export. 2. Tap the Custom data menu at the bottom of the screen then select Export to file. 3. A file containing your custom text will be placed in your Pocket PC's "My Documents" folder. This plain text file will be given a name related to the BioChem agent you are exporting from. 4. Place your Pocket PC onto its cradle. 5. After ActiveSync completes its synchronization, click the Explore button at the top of the ActiveSync screen. 6. The BioChem agent custom text file you created should appear on the list of text documents on your Pocket PC. In order to open and use this text file, you need to drag it from the PocketPC and drop it in some location on your computer's hard disk. Alternatively, you can RIGHT click on the text file with the mouse and select Copy, then browse to a location on the desktop computer and select Paste, or you can select Copy from the file browser's Edit menu, then browse to a location on your desktop computer and select Paste from the file browser's Edit menu. 7. Once you have the export text file stored on your desktop computer, you can open it and work with it like any other file on the desktop.
